eathos Sunday 24th August, 2003 at 11:01

For those that weren't in the loop yesterday, our first AP has gone live, go to the node database to see the details, or drop by the forums as well.

But its so nice when things work :)

A few things to note, I have flushed the node database, so please re-add yourself to the database, the forums are also booming with many threads.
Such as:

AuS's IP Thread

portamento's CQWireless Meeting Thread

Knight's Rant

See you on the network!

CQwireless temporary "office"

FredNerk Monday 9th December, 2002 at 09:04

Since the middle of last week John and I have been working on wireless from an office located at COIN (the pink government building just on southside).

I have been awarded a vacational scholarship to do a project for six weeks and have taken this opportunity to hopefully propell CQwireless up onto the antenna polls and into our living rooms, or more precisely, MY living room.

We'll try to keep you posted about major updates, and we do expect there to be a few in the coming weeks.

Status Update

Brett Tuesday 12th November, 2002 at 08:27

Just to let you all know about some of the work that has been going on.

We currently have a test network set up at eathos's house, with a pair of access points and an authentication server. The latest work has been involved in getting Compaq WL200 wireless cards working under Linux. A number of these were purchased by eathos in a bulk purchase, and will form the basis of the foundation nodes on the network.

Success! The cards, after a lot of research, have been made to work. In addition, rudimentary IP bridging has been successfully been tested, so that many computers can use a single wireless connection onto the network.

eathos has also been having a go at the web site. The new header is still in development, but your comments would be appreciated on the forums / mailing list.

Keep watching this space, many exciting things are happening.

P.S. A reminder about the mailing lists. No one is using them! If you have any questions or discussion, be sure to send some mail.

Help around the place

eathos Saturday 26th October, 2002 at 21:49

A bit of a follow up on the last post about people helping out.

I'm really in need of people to help with content on the website. I have coded the website so that all you need to know is basic html. And i could help out if that side of things is a probelm. I need things like how to setup a firewall, a place to display photo's we have taken and some other little things.

Also if anyone has some skill (eg not me) in website design and would like to give the website a face lift, or a general better feel to it ( my first idea was a website with my pictures at all ), this would be great.

SO if you fell you have something you could help out with contact me and i'll give you more info.

Full network setup and test

eathos Saturday 26th October, 2002 at 21:35

This week we will be setting up and testing the wireless network. It will be a mock up what will be going up on the mast. We are getting close to being able to getting equipment in place and want to be ready to be able to put it up asap once we can.

To my knowledge the bugs with the linux server have been worked out and is ready to be setup for "real traffic testng".

Also if anyone wants to help out at all with anything to do with cqwireless, plese fell free to contact me as anyhelp will be welcome.

whats been going on

eathos Thursday 10th October, 2002 at 00:07

Well of late, alot has been going on be hide the sense’s and I’ve not been posting much. so here is a post to fill you all in.

As some of you may or may not know, the first site has moved to Mount Archer, this may be a good/bad thing for you depending on your location, but for the most part it's a good thing(But FredNerk still can't see the site, hehehe)

Antenna's - Merv has been hard at work on these to get them done but after some setbacks there almost ready to go, all we need is a swr meter: and if anyone has one we could borrow that would be fantastic. email me (click on my name) or get in contact with Merv so we can get these babies finished.

Getting the Access Points up and running: Well for this we are mostly waiting on the go ahead from the owners on the site of Mount Archer. Once we have this it will be about 2 weeks before we have equipment on the site, taking other things into account (like Uni). But at the moment if you want to try and connect to the network, there is an Active Access Point running at the end of Thozit road, Thanks to Brett for letting us use this.

Forming a official origination and incorporation - As I’m writing this post I’m in the process of writing our constitution (god I fell important) which should be finished if I remember to click the save button this time. But you should all be happy with it and I’ll chuck it up on the net for you all to have a look at to make sure you do all agree with it.

Coming up in the next few weeks.

First official meeting and voting of the club officials and that fun stuff. (by the way I will be striving for lower tax's and reduce pollution as the big fats cats down in Canberra need a shake up by god's)

writing of the AUP - (I love this playing god stuff) which most of you will look over and god he's not even going to let us do that, and my response to that will be no hahahaha no you can't ha....hahaha.

Getting the wheels up and going again - things has seem to come to a bit of a slow down at the moment, I’m not to sure why maybe it’s just be but things are going a little slow for me.

(Oh and remember vote 1 president john cook)

just a few updates

eathos Wednesday 2nd October, 2002 at 03:07

As most of you will most likely know the nodedata base's maping data is next to useless, i'm really trying to push the guys down south to get this fixed, but it might have to start costing by the looks of it.

On different note there is an access point up and running (thanks to brett) it ssid is cqwireless and is located at the top of thozates road (can someone correct the spelling on that for me) if you want to try and connect, plese do so. and let us know how you go.

Were not far off now guys, this network will be up and running soon, very soon.

Rockhampton and wireless networking

eathos Tuesday 27th August, 2002 at 15:17

Well it has been an interesting last few days, with the demo over at rocky high not getting off to a good start and over here at itria today with the dsl not doing what its ment too. But in the end we went ok at rocky high, and right now i'm sitting on a bench out side the bowls club accross the road from the itra conference with steve's laptop, and a wireless interent connection.

So the gear has been put thought a bit of the test the last few days, and i bet kevin is awaiting my emails about what we got up too.

Here are some pic's if you want to see what we were up to down here.
( i'll upload asap so you guys can have a look. )

Lots of news today guys

eathos Monday 12th August, 2002 at 11:09

Just letting you all know we’re still here, just been in a bit of a slum at the moment waiting for the access points to get here, but that wait is over now.
THE ACCESS POINTS ARE HERE!!!!!

We still can't give any E.T.A as for when the network will be up and running, but this does mean i’m working on the network sections of the website. Oh and if there are any businesses out there who would like to donate a server or two to the wireless network, I can offer you permanent advertising on what is most likely to become the most accessed servers in town.
So please fell free to contact me.

Big ISP's in the states crack down on WiFi

eathos Sunday 14th July, 2002 at 12:28

Over in the US Time Warner has started sending letters to its customers who are sharing there broadband connections over wireless hotspots, at the moment only 10 letters have been sent but this trickle could turn into a flash flood. What impact does this have here? Well next to none as there are laws in place already stopping you from sending internet data openly over a wireless network with out a carrier license. Here's the link so you can look for yourself here.
